Stadium Place Lab is an urban development and placemaking consultancy based in Cape Town.

We believe that cities, companies and communities thrive when people connect in meaningful and memorable ways – and that is our mission. We create places that bring people together – physically, digitally and conceptually. We champion good design and pursue positive outcomes in everything we do.

We specialise in the human scale experience of buildings and urban spaces, with a particular focus on how buildings meet the ground, connect to the world around them, and contribute to a sense of place. Our work naturally leans towards retail strategy and curated tenanting, supported by design input on unit plans and shopfront details.

We work with property developers, architects and city governments to unlock value and impact through an understanding and appreciation for urban life and the economies of cities. Our work benefits from being embedded within an ecosystem of clients, collaborators and ideas, which is further supported by a portfolio of self-initiated projects.

Team

Stadium is led by Gareth Pearson. Gareth has had a life-long interest in how buildings and the spaces between them are inhabited and used in ways that enrich both day-to-day life and neighbourhood vitality. He combines his experience in cultural programming with his love for urban life to bring a unique perspective to the making of successful places.

Gareth is a co-founder of the city-changing initiative First Thursdays in both Cape Town and Johannesburg, and a graduate of the City Design and Social Science programme at the London School of Economics. Outside of Stadium, you’ll find him riding a bicycle, lost in a book shop, or exploring the Karoo.
